James Webb Telescope Makes Progress But at What Cost?

NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center released the following list of highlights for the James Webb Telescope for 2012 marking the progress of the project. However while the project is making progress, it has created budgetary problems for NASA and will launch several years later than planned.

It was only two months ago that the Government Accountability Office released its report “Actions Needed to Improve Cost Estimate and Oversight of Test and Integration” documenting the problems with the project.

The cost overruns have begun to eat into NASA’s planetary science budget forcing the agency to make difficult decisions on other projects.
